My name is Nicole Waasdorp and when I was young always into making creating. I see certain beauty in things, life, nature, animals, and people
When I was 15 my father asked me: " what you are thinking to become, what kind of profession? "
My reply was: " I want to become a drawing teacher."
He dismissed this idea because there's no money in that and he told me that wanted me to be able to earn my own good money and not being dependent on a man.
So - being obedient - I went to school for physiotherapy.
I was a good student and finished in the 4 years, cum laude. However I still was called to Art.
I went grape picking in south of France and my co-workers asked questions as what you really wished to do with the life. I replied: "Art" .
I made a trip to Italy and met on the train an Italian American artist who was a sculpturer and on his way to his roots. Italy.
In Italy I found a spirit that doesn't live in the Netherlands. Art is important in Italy and in the Netherlands you are looked down upon.
However. I collected a portfolio and applied in Utrecht at the HKU here I was admitted for the department Autonomous Arts. I had my diploma physiotherapy so I could fully concentrate on all the artforms the academy taught us.
My family though I was crazy.
However it was an amazing time and I always kept seeing the world with my "art eye"
I can tell you so much more about what during and after this education but I won't keep you.
The only thing I can say is that it has enriched.

I was asked to become a part of a performance collective with Anne de Vilder as Choreographer. The concept she followed was blueprinted by inspiration of Pina Bausch.
In this way of working the performers are co-creators and not robots who have to do what the script tells them to do.
