The story of the painting "Eva-Brazil"

A Letter from the Artist

By Nicole Waasdorp (NiWa)

Dear One Who Will Hold This Painting,

My name is Nicole Waasdorp — NiWa — born in 1966 in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.

And I feel art.

Not as a job. Not as a career.

But as a calling — deep, quiet, and true.

I am offering you one work.

Titled *Eva – Brazil*.

And though I have made many, this is the only one I am letting go.

Because this painting is not just an image.

It is a moment of becoming.

The moment I stepped into my truth — not as someone who *makes* art, but as someone who *is* art.

It is beautiful — I say this not with pride, but with knowing.

I can feel quality when it is real. And this work has it — in color, in form, in soul.

The paint is not from a tube. I made it myself, mixing real pigments by hand. That is why the colors live — they breathe, they glow, they remember the light of that day.

There is depth in this painting — a presence — that comes from years of study.

Before I became an artist, I was a physiotherapist.

I learned the body not from books, but from touch.

I drew every muscle, built my own anatomy book, and even went to the mortuary with my school to see the body revealed.

This knowledge is in the lines. In the curve of the shoulder. In the quiet strength of the pose.

And there is poetry — a soft fire — that comes only from feeling.

From presence.

From the meeting between model and maker.

Eva was from Brazil.

Beautiful. Calm. Fully at home in her body.

We worked in the atelier of the Van Gogh Museum — then still a real studio, hidden in the basement. (Later, they turned it into a souvenir shop — a quiet loss.)

I painted quickly. Almost in a trance.

Not because it was easy — but because it was right.

At the end of the workshop, we gathered as a group, glasses of wine in hand.

Our teacher, the artist Nicolas Dings, held up one of my ink drawings and said, “Ladies and gentlemen, this is a nice drawing.”

Then he lifted *Eva – Brazil*.

“And this,” he said, “is Art.”

Silence fell.

And in that silence, something shifted inside me.

I was no longer someone who wanted to be an artist.

I was one.

I kept this painting for over thirty years.

Not because I was waiting — but because it was not yet time.

Now, it is.

I am not selling this work for money.

I am offering it to someone who will *live* with it.

Who will sit with it in the morning light.

Who will feel it in the quiet hours.

Who will understand that a painting is not just for the wall — but for the heart.

Because art is storytelling.

And this story is now yours to carry.

I was always drawing as a child.

At fifteen, I told my father I wanted to be a drawing teacher.

He said, “No — there’s no future in that. Choose something that lets you stand on your own.”

(And this, from a traditional man — how modern he was.)

So I became a physiotherapist.

Finished in four years. *Cum laude* for the final exam.

After that, I went grape picking — sun, soil, laughter — and with the money, I traveled:

Pisa. Florence. Corsica.

Then Amsterdam — to create a portfolio for art school.

In Italy, I saw that art is not separate from life.

It is in the clothes, the food, the streets, the light.

Beauty is lived.

And when I finally surrendered — truly surrendered — to the call of art,

I began to dream in colors.

Every night.

Abstract. Flowing. Alive.

As if my soul had finally found its voice.

I have made many works.

But for years, I believed: *Art should not be made for money.*

I feared it would corrupt the purity of creation.

And I still believe this — because I can always tell:

Who paints from the inside.

And who paints for the outside.

But this painting — *Eva – Brazil* — is not for sale in that way.

It is being offered — with respect, with care — to someone who sees not just the image, but the life behind it.

Someone who wants to know:

How it was made.

What kind of paint.

What it meant to the artist.

And who the artist truly is.

The average collector wants only the name, the “oh,” the status.

They do not want the story.

They do not want the soul.

But you — if you are reading this —

You are not average.

You are the one who will sit with this painting.

Who will feel its breath.

Who will understand that it is not just a thing —

But a presence.

And I will be grateful — deeply — that it found you.

With warmth,

Nicole Waasdorp (NiWa)

Painting "Eva – Brazil"

Price: 250,000 EUR

This price is not just a number.

It reflects depth, history, and soul.

This painting is not merely an image.

It is the moment I became an artist.

Years of anatomical knowledge from my time as a physiotherapist live in every line and form.

The deep, living colors come from hand-mixed, natural pigments — made with care, not taken from a tube.

And the quiet poetry in the pose comes from a true meeting between model and maker.

The paint is handmade.

Every pigment chosen, mixed, and applied with intention.

This is not mass-produced art — it is one of a kind.

This work stayed with me for over thirty years.

It was never made for sale, but for truth.

It grew in silence, carrying the weight of a life lived fully.

That is why this price does not come from the market —

but from the essence of the work itself.

250,000 EUR —

is the value of depth, of authenticity, of art that breathes.

And I offer it to the one who will live with it, not just own it.

Best regards, NiWa
